Stagecraft and Stage Production

Are you interested in working backstage or being part of the technical crew for theatrical productions and events? If so, the Stagecraft & Production Pathway will provide hands-on, on-the-job training for entry level work or college major in technical theatre.  Students will learn theatre safety, set design and construction, and participate as stage crew for productions and events at Westlake High School.

This Pathway teaches you ...

  • Theater elements such as theater safety, stage elements, theater architecture, scenic construction and design, props, installation, sound engineering, and more.

Real-world opportunities through this Pathway include ...

  • Designing, construction and operation of all backstage elements for the theater department’s fall and spring productions
  • Independent lighting and sound design projects

This Pathway will prepare me for …

A career in the technical theater field. Continuing through the Pathway will lead to additional opportunities in design, light and sound board programming, and stage management, as well as events outside of WHS. Students will graduate with a portfolio and resume to use in college and job interviews.

What our students are saying ...

"My favorite part about Tech Theatre would probably be the feeling of being part of a group that has your back and cares about you."
- Sammy C., Class of 2023

"My favorite part is working with a team because you all get to work together to create this beautiful thing that you get to show off to the audience."
- Alivia I., Class of 2020
